Work

So blessed with all the jobs I've been getting lately.

A week ago an acquaintance of mine from my degree year approached me and asked if I can do poem translation, from english to malay. I never did. Never even written a poem in malay, nor english. I never felt like I had a knack for that. Honestly, I have tried, but it wasn't me. This is me. Words can never be enough for me to express.

Anyway, if you know me, you know I always advocate others to know when to say No. Ironically, I can't, especially when it comes to doing this, my side hustle. I promised myself that I wanted to learn something new, and I wanted to challenge myself to involve in something that I never had before. Hence, the yes. But here's another misdemeanor of mine, I tend to say yes without checking the content. Turns out, it was a chansons de geste (except that it was originally Serbian). Mind you, the last time I did an interpretation of a poem was back in high school for english literature of course. And this one made me go way back to studying the history of Serbia (just slightly) and the author itself.

It was laborious. A 15 lines poem, consisting of 6 stanzas with only 3-5 words per line took me 5 days to understand it. And as much as it kept me awake at night, and occupied my mind during the day, I enjoyed it. I enjoyed the process and the outcome. What made it even better is when the assignor said it was quintessential. I didn't expect it to be perfect, but it was worth the effort.

And now I am assigned with another 3 more. Guess I can never take a No?
